There’s nothing more Italian than the Godfather and it’s no coincidence that I discovered my latest favorite cocktail in Vancouver’s best Italian Restaurant, Novo. While perusing their artisanal menu of incredible pizzas and pastas my eye fell upon The Godfather Cocktail. Immediately intrigued I ordered it without even looking at its ingredients (something I almost never do, but I got carried away in the moment).
It was love at first sip as the combination of blended scotch whiskey and Disaronno met my lips. The genius in its simplicity is a palate pleaser and sure remedy for whatever my ale you at any given time.
The recipe is simple:
- 2 ounces blended whisky
- 1 ounce Disaronno liquor
You can set it up in whatever amounts you wish as long as the 2 to 1 ratio remains the same.
I’ve experimented with various blended whiskeys and the two that suit this cocktail best are Dewar’s and Johnny Walker Red Label though never at the same time. I’ve also experimented with different amaretto liquors and there is no other for this particular drink than Disaronno.
